changing a community through art

The work shown here was installed on a wall located on the corner of Tobey and Broadway st in providence RI. The wall was a victim of a lot of tagging done by many different people. Through work I have done with other property owners and the city of Providence. It took me over a year to get permission to install a piece on this wall to help solve the issues the property owner has had for many years.
During the time frame of this installation we were approached by over 300 people passing this corner through out the day, every person made a point to say how much they were happy to see this style of art installed and wished their was much more around the city. I also found it interesting to see how so many different people was affected by seeing the installation of public art in their community.
To date the work has been up for 1 week with no negative actions done to this wall, which shows how public art can help solve the larger problem which exists in Providence and other cities. I'm excited to work in partnership with this local artist to help change the community in a positive way using Large Format Public Art.
